The Idaho School District Council is a cooperative service agency. The membership includes public school districts, charter schools, and other educational related organizations. The Council operates pursuant to Title 67, Chapter 23, Section 67-2328 and Title 33, Chapter 3, Sections 315-318, Idaho Code.
The purposes of the Council are to:
- Provide educational services more economically and/or efficiently through cooperation with two or more member districts;
- Develop and recommend cooperative programs, actions and policies;
- Study issues of mutual concern and interest; and
- Enter into contracts, as the member school districtís representative, to employ specialized personnel and/or purchase materials or services, including life, dental and over 65 supplemental health insurance on behalf of members.
Administration costs are covered by annual membership dues, by cash discounts provided by vendors for timely payment, and by administrative allowances provided by contracts through the Council.
A Board of Directors governs the Council; six directors are elected to serve a three-year term from each of the six educational regions in the state. The president of the Idaho School Superintendents' Association, and the executive director of the Council also serve on the board. A representative of retired educators completes the board.
